My service immersion trip to Give Kids the World Village

This past summer, I went with 10 other girls and 2 of the guidance counselors from my high school on a service immersion trip to Kissimee Florida to volunteer at Give Kids the World Village. Give Kids the World, is a non-profit resort where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families can come to stay and visit the different theme parks or attractions that are in central Florida. When we arrived at the village, the volunteers were so welcoming and very friendly. We then went on a tour to see the different venues that the village has available for the families to enjoy during their stay. After our tour, we went to sign in and to begin our first day. The job that I had for the first day was working in the Castle of Miracles. This is a place in the village where the Wish child comes to make their star, which is then put up by in the Star Fairy at night. Creating this gold star is a very special moment for the child and their family because, the child gets to write their name or draw anything they want to make it their own personal star. The families can then come back to the Castle, and volunteers are able to locate where  the Child's star was placed by simply looking up the child's name. I also got to do many other fun jobs that included driving a little train around the village, operating a carousel, working at a Pirate/ Princess Party and a talent show.
Volunteering at Give Kids the World was one of the best volunteer opportunities that I have ever had. The families I got to meet at the village were so nice and very appreciative of all the work that I was doing to make them have the best experience ever. And I was able to do this by talking with them and by constantly smiling to show that I was having fun volunteering at this wonderful place. I am so glad that I applied  to be a part of the group that went on this amazing and life changing service immersion trip. I really hope that I can go back and volunteer at Give Kids the World Village some day in the future.

Audiences of a Commercial

Being aware of who your audience is a very important part of a commercial. This is important because, if you are interested in the commercial then you are more likely to purchase or want to learn more about the  information  mentioned in the ad. This is why advertisers make their advertisements very interesting so many people will want to watch them. So this is why you should be aware of who watches the commercial.

The IPhone 6 commercial is intended  for an audience of young adults.  This group would be the intended audience because, young adults were the individuals that were using the IPhones in the ad. Young  adults are also known to be the ones who know how to work the different features that an IPhone offers to the people who use the device on a daily basis, unlike adults who are not as familiar with these features as young adults are. Some of these features of the IPhone include I-message, Face Time, Camera, and Video.

Men would be the intended audience for the ad about the Samsung Smart tv. This audience is intended for this commercial because, many men were attracted to the pretty girl in the video, and they were all trying to be the one to get the girl to like them. So they all ran to her apartment, and then they notice that she has a Smart tv from Samsung. She was appealing to the guys in the video, so if men saw this commercial they would automatically be attracted to her too. The television would also be appealing and make people want to buy one for their house.

People who really want to drive or take a ride in a Mercedes Benz car, are the intended audience for the Mercedes Benz commercial. This is the intended audience because, in this video the little boy really wanted the chance to ride in a Mercedes. So he sneaks out of the house, and then goes to tell the police man that he is lost, just so he could get a ride home  in the Mercedes Benz. The little boy really likes Mercedes cars so that is another reason why he wants to ride in the police man's car.

We should be critical of audience in advertisements or other information that surrounds us because, we as human beings need to take into consideration whether or not we really want to have these products. Some commercials we may not be even interested in the product or information that is presented or we may not need it depending on our situations in life. So this why we should be critical of audience in advertisements or other information.

Cheerleading at Defiance College

Deciding to tryout for the Defiance College cheerleading squad, was one of the best decisions I have ever made as part of my freshman year of college. I first heard about tryouts, when I got an email from the cheerleading adviser asking for more students to join the squad for basketball season. I was so excited when I got the email, since I had an interest in possibly becoming a cheerleader. So when the day came for the tryouts, I was a little nervous, because  I had only had a little cheerleading experience. The girls who were already a part of the squad, taught me some of the basic cheerleading motions that were used in the different basketball chants at games. I had a little trouble learning them, but I was thankful to have the girls there to assist me when I needed help. Once the tryouts were done, I felt so happy that I had tried out. A day after the tryouts, I met with the cheer adviser and told her that I was interested in being a part of the squad. She was so excited that I tried out for the squad, and I received a packet that contained information all about cheerleading at Defiance College. I attended practices to learn the chants and fight song that we were going to perform at the basketball games. When I received the uniform and pompoms, I was so excited to officially be a Defiance cheerleader. I definitely would say that I have a close bond with the girls who are a part of the cheerleading squad, since they are always wanting to help me out if I am needing extra assistance with a basketball chant. Cheering at the basketball games are so much fun. My favorite part of the games is when we do the different chants and the fight song. I always have a smile on my face, and this shows people that I am having so much fun being a cheerleader.  So I am having a great time being a Defiance cheerleader and I hope to continue it next year for football season.

My Narrative ( the first time I auditioned for a spring musical)

It was the week before my first audition for the spring musical at McAuley high school, and I had to figure out what 1-2 minute monologue and Disney or Broadway song that I wanted to perform. I wanted to choose something that would be easy to learn and memorize, so that I would not have any difficulty when I went to practice the words.  The monologue and song I decided to do was from Disney's The Little Mermaid. This was an easy thing to do because I am very good at memorizing things from Disney movies, since I have seen them many times. So when I practiced the monologue and song, I thought of Ariel saying the words and singing the lyrics to the song. I am so glad that I had my parents there when I practiced, since they sat and listened as if they were the audience in the room where the auditions were going to be. When the day of the audition came, I was really nervous that I would accidentally forget the words to the monologue or the song. But since I practiced a lot before the audition, I was able to give an amazing performance.  After the audition, I was so proud of myself for having the courage to get up in front of an audience to recite a monologue and sing a song. Once all the auditions and callbacks were finished, the cast list was put up the next day. I was very anxious to know if I had received a part, and when I saw my name under the list for Chorus, I became so excited, and really proud of myself. My family was so happy, especially my younger brother Noah. He had always wanted to see me as part of the cast, since I had been on crew for other musicals. So he was super excited, when he found out that I had received a part.

This event was an important day for me because, I tried something that was out of my comfort zone.  I am someone who had never had the courage to try out for a musical, but not until my junior year of high school. So this was a very big deal for me, because I am a very shy person who becomes nervous when I am in front of a huge crowd of people. But I was so happy that I had the courage to try out for my first spring musical.

After watching the Ted Talk, I do trust how well I remembered the time I auditioned for my first spring musical. I was able to recall every detail that happened. This event is important to me because, it reminds me that it is okay to go out of my comfort zone and try new things.

How I Got In Jail

I woke up on a Saturday morning just like I always did, but this one was very different. It started with waking up to finding myself cold  and achy. When I opened my eyes, I realized that I was laying on a hard surface  and not my comfortable mattress at home. I did not have any blankets on me, so that is why I was very cold. So I was very confused as to where I was. So I got up and walked around the room and suddenly I saw metal bars and  realized that I was locked up in a jail cell. So I was thinking, how did I get in jail? So I looked through my pockets of my clothing, to see if there were any items to help me solve the mystery of why I was in jail. I was able to find five items. The first item I found was my  cell phone. I remembered that I had my Samsung 4G LTE Smart phone on me, to tell my parents when I was driving  home from my friends  party. Then I discovered, a shiny small blue pop tab from a Bud Light beer can. This helped me to remember that they served beer at the party, and I must have had a few. Then I discovered my Blue Toyota Camry car keys, which led me to realize that I drove myself home after drinking those beers. After the car keys, I found a DUI ticket that cost 12,000 dollars.  So that means I must have been stopped by a police man on the way home, for driving after consuming alcohol. So, they  must have found me going under the speed limit and pulled me over. Then, they must have brought me to the jail and locked me up.  I also found a melted milk chocolate Hershey Kiss in my Hollister jacket pocket.  This led me to remember, that I had some at the party and must have forgotten I had put one in my pocket to have later. So that left me with a very sticky jacket pocket. After I found all the items, I remembered why I ended up in jail. I got arrested for driving after I consumed alcohol. So that was my punishment for making the decision to drive home after having those drinks.

The first time that I heard a song from One Direction ( my favorite music group)

In this blog post, I am writing about the first time that I heard a song from my favorite music group One Direction. One Direction if you are not familiar with this group, are a British-Irish pop boy band who are very popular around the world today. Many girls make up their fan base and I am one of them.  I first became a fan of this music group, when I first heard their hit single What Makes You Beautiful at a dance during my freshmen year of high school. Once the song came on, I automatically decided that I loved it and wanted to purchase it on I-tunes. This song had great lyrics that I loved and an awesome beat that played throughout the entire song. I enjoyed this song so much, that I decided to search for more songs from this amazing group.  Listening to One Direction songs, is something that I have done ever since that wonderful night.  But when I listen to What Makes You Beautiful, it makes me think of the day I heard that song for the first time. I will never forget it. So that is the story of the time, I heard my first One Direction song.
